Facebook generation - what's next?

Can we name it the “era of Facebook’? Almost everyone today has an account on the greatest social media website – FACEBOOK. Although it changes its Face every other month, millions of users continue to use it as the best mean of communication and socialization. Photos, comments, statuses, ‘likes’, friends, events, groups – we LIKE them all.

We don’t quite realize that while we intensively socialize, someone earns thousands of dollars every day. How come? Well, the ads cost money. They appear on the right side of our page and are programmed in a way which monitors our daily activity and provide us the ads which might interest us the most.

A few days ago, Google Plus, a new social media platform, opened its doors to all the “WWW-inhabitants”. Now we are going to see who’s going to be the best and earn the most. The competition leads to efficiency and excellence.

The importance of internet in our century

We live in a century where every realm of human life is advancing. The people invent new methods of doing things in order to ease their tasks, by replacing them with technology. A great invention of our generation is the internet.

Our life is more and more demanding due to the large amount of work we are supposed to do. The internet becomes a great help while doing some chores. First of all, it's an easy way to communicate. We can send instant messages which are received at the same time when we press Enter button. Also, it is very cheap. We can use Skype for free in order to talk to our oversees family and friends. If we are talking in terms of education, the internet is a great feature in doing research. We don't need to overcrowd the libraries anymore and ask the librarians to browse shelves with books to find the information we need. We can search by ourselves and find outstanding resources of any kind. It's fast, cheap, time-saving and very efficient. When it comes to socializing, the internet is a perfect mean to do that. You can socialize with unknown people; you can learn new languages in an interactive way, forgetting the classical boring method of learning from books. It gets more interesting and captivating.

The most important advantage would be the replacement of thousands of human being's tasks with the computers connected to the internet. For example, now you don't have to go to the airline’s office to buy you plane ticket. You can do it online, fast, easy and comfortable. The people are encouraged to use even the on-line check-ins in order to replace the human work.

Of course, for most of use, the usage of internet became a daily basic need and it’s quite hard to imagine living today without internet. The speed of sending the information, the ways of finding information helps the people to have fewer things to do and ease their lives.

Why are the college years special to me?

The college years are definitely the best time in a person's life. I personally strongly agree with this statement, because I am a college student now. I really like my college years more than my high school years. There are two major reasons for that.

The professional reasons are among the most important factors. While in college, a student studies what he is mostly interested in and isn't forced to learn all the subjects he doesn’t like. At the same time, he will meet other students who are interested in the same topics based on what they are majoring in. Having colleagues to talk with on the same subjects helps him to better understand the area he’s focusing into. The professors are specialized people who can provide an efficient feedback on the facts in which the student is mostly interested.

The other reason is the personal feature. While being in college, the student is already mature enough to be independent. He is supposed to take decisions by himself without being forced to accept an outside influence. He becomes more flexible with his schedule and he can organize his time. Living on campus can definitely mean a significant life experience to the student. In the dorm he will be forced to take care of himself from all points of view: to cook, to do his own laundry, to budget his money and others. One thing that makes the college student life even more interesting and pleasant is the possibility to have fun with your colleagues or even your room mates without your family or relatives knowing what you’re exactly doing every single moment. You can go clubbing, you may not sleep nights due to the large amount of work you have to do for school or just because you chilled out with your friends. Also, you may find your great love! Who knows?!

The college life is unique and the moments the student experiences will be remembered for the rest of his life. Nothing can be compared to the freedom and responsibilities you have when you’re a college student!

Republic of Moldova today – 20 years of independence from the Soviet Union

20 years ago, on August 27, the Republic of Moldova proclaimed its independence from the Soviet Union. It was a great event, the Moldovans gaining their freedom after 51 years under a communist regime.

Today, the Republic of Moldova , sandwiched between Romania, a European Union member state and Ukraine, a former Soviet Republic, celebrates the Independence Day. The Moldovans have different opinions about today’s Republic, some regretting the dissolution of the USSR, while others hope for an European integration.

Mrs. Eugenia Pintea, 50, thinks that 20 years it’s a quite short period of time to switch from one regime to another. She blames the Communist regime which was established from 1991 until 2009 for failures in achieving a better life in the country. However, she is pleased to live in a free state now. „I am personally delighted to live in an independent country where everyone can freely express their opinion.” She explains that there are still so many things to be done and she’s optimistic about Moldova’s future. „I am waiting for victory, democracy and a greater approach towards the European Union because that’s our place, that’s where we’re supposed to be,” says Mrs. Pintea.

Mrs. Angela Ciobanas has a different opinion. She believes that 20 years of independence mean 20 years of instability. „We don’t have a president now. We don’t have justice and a well-developed economy. We can travel to other countries only if we have enough financial resources to get a visa,” says Ciobanas. She states that in a country with injustice, there is nobody to complain to.

The younger generation has a different perspective and sees the collapse of the Soviet Union as a step forward towards a better life. Although some of them didn’t get the taste of the Sovietic times, some believe that Moldova is aiming at the right direction. „20 years of independence of my country means a well defined political, economic and social structure, freed from the Soviet occupation,” says Valeria Trinca, a 19 years old student.

Moldova has been congratulated for its independence by the United States of America. „On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to congratulate the people of Moldova as you celebrate the 20th anniversary of your independence this August 27,” says Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State. She added that the USA “isa strong supporter of Moldova’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and we will continue to support you as you work towards becoming a free and prosperous part of the European community,” said Mrs. Clinton in a press statement.

On August 27, 1991, Moldova signed the Declaration of Independence and became a republic, known today as the Republic of Moldova.
